Forum Marketing Tips - How To Avoid Train Wrecks

Author:Steven Wagenheim

Well, my latest experience over at a forum that I frequent quite a lot has taught me a lesson in avoiding train wrecks. In this article, I'm going to share that lesson with you so that YOU can avoid train wrecks too. Keep reading to find out how.

Okay, here it is, short and to the point...how to avoid train wrecks.

Don't get involved.

Don't start any threads of any meaning.

Don't post...don't do anything. Just lurk in the shadows and become invisible.

Yeah, right...a little over the top. Well, I did this to make a point. See, the truth is, you CAN'T avoid train wrecks...at least not entirely. Sure, if you see a thread that's spiraling out of control, you CAN keep out of it. It doesn't stop the train from crashing, but it does keep YOU from breaking any bones or losing any valuable body parts. For some of these people who start these train wrecks I have to wonder how many valuable body parts they have. Certainly you can't count their brains as one of them.

But what if you have a viable question to ask? What then? Well, as much as I hate to say this, I don't care what the topic is, there is going to be somebody out there who is going to be hell bent on derailing it. Let's say you ask the question, "How can I best optimize my AdWords campaign?" You're going to have one person come to that thread spewing their venom on how evil Google is and how we shouldn't use AdWords. This will eventually turn into an all out war between the AdWords supporters and the AdWords haters.

My grandmother had a saying. "As long as there are two people in the world, there will always be war." She is so right. We are all different. And we all have different opinions. When one person offers an opinion that is different from our own, we tend to lash out. Heaven forbid we admit that MAYBE there MIGHT be another point of view worth considering.

So if you're looking for a safe environment when it comes to forums, you might as well do what I said to do up top. Don't post, don't get involved, don't do anything. Because that is the only way to avoid getting caught up in those train wrecks.

Or...you can just use your head, think about what you're going to say BEFORE you say it and then if somebody wants to make an idiot of themselves, let them.

At least you'll walk away with all your body parts intact.

To YOUR Success,

Steven Wagenheim
